I'm On A Posting Roll!

I'm listening to the Cowboys game on the internet and hoping they don't eff up this game with the Texans. My intent was to work on my Brass/Annie fic as I listen but that's not going as planned to I thought I'd shock myself and post again.
I know several on my f'list are vegetarians so I thought I'd pass along this Edamame Black Bean Salad. My stepmother made it and besides being incredibly easy to make and very yummy, it's also good for those of you watching your cholesterol.
1 15 oz can organic black beans, drained and rinsed
1 16 oz bag organic shelled edamame, thawed. If you can find fresh, use them instead.
1 12 oz jar organic fire roasted red bell peppers, chopped
1/2 cup chopped cilantro
1/8 cup extra virgin olive oil
1/8 cup red wine vinegar
1/2 tsp kosher salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
Combine all ingredients, toss, let sit for 30 minutes before serving. Can be made up to 2 days before serving. Refrigerate.
Also, I know that some of us suffer from insomnia so I thought I'd pass this along: drink Tart Cherry juice before bed. Apparently, tart cherry juice has melatonin, a hormone that help control our sleep but we lose as we age. There are supplements available but they have some not so great side affects. Tart cherries contain significant amounts of melatonin so it can be a possible natural solution for insomnia. Honestly, it's not the most tasty juice in the world but I tried it in small amounts both Friday and Saturday night and while it doesn't make me drowsy, it did help me get a solid night's sleep. And this says something because on the weekends, I don't sleep all that great (until the temps get cold).
My last little tidbit of health information is for those of us entering the hot flashes stage of life: flaxseed. Supposedly, flaxseed can decrease hot flashes in women who do not take estrogen. Whether this is true or not, I can't say but I do know flaxseed are an excellent way to lower your cholesterol so if you add it to your diet, it's a win-win. I add ground flaxseed to my smoothie and honestly, I don't taste them. If you eat yogurt, you can add it to that as well.
I don't want to get my hopes up entirely but there's 5 minutes left in the 4th and Dallas is up 24-6. I think my 'Boys might actually win this one.

Date: 2010-09-26 07:47 pm (UTC)Moving to Florida (where we've had the second hottest summer on record) when I'm in the throes of peri-menopause wasn't the brightest idea I've ever had. Hot flashes here are brutal to say the least. I've been trying to read up on what to do, but the lit is all over the place. SOunds as if we just have to try different things to figure out what works ofr each individual. SO, thanks for the suggestions.
Now...get back to the keyboard and write! Brass fans everywhere are waiting :-)
