I had surgery on my left elbow back on April 8th and then took three weeks off from work to recover. Maybe it was the Vicodin but the week after surgery I was really missing my late kitty, Harry. I mean really missing him. The next morning, April 15th, I checked my email and what do I see but an email from one of the techs at my Vet. She sent me pictures of a tiny Tabby boy and said that she thought I might be interested. All I could do was cry happy tears. Of course I went to see him that afternoon.

My special kitty boy, Harry, passed away yesterday. I had hoped he would make it to his 12th birthday but as it was, he barely made it to mine. He was ready; I wasn't. But when I finally realized it wasn't about me, I made the decision on March 20th at 2pm. I wrote the following when I first found out that he had cancer. It was a Friday and I was at work. Thankfully, it was a slow day because I cried for a full hour as I typed most this up. I'm adding to it now because I want to remember his last days.

Not sure what has gotten into me but I've now finished two fics over the last six months. First there was She Sells Sanctuary in the Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea fandom and just last week I posted to final chapter to a Brass/CSI fic called Shelter from the Storm. This one is a sequel to Forgiveness and features the return of Annie Kramer. I haven't finished two fics this close together since 2007. As painful as it was, changing jobs really was a good thing.

In other news first it was the right elbow, now it's the left. I have a surgery date of April 8th. I guess my left elbow was jealous and wanted a matching scar. I'm just a tad paranoid of getting another frozen shoulder so I'm glad I'm not waiting too terribly long but the freaking elbow hurts so much that I may take a kitchen knife and cut it off between now and April.

And lastly, my kitty-boy, Harry, the oldest of the trio, was diagnosed with esophageal cancer in early January. He's on prednisone now and that's helping him eat. My goal is to get him to his 12th birthday on April 28th. He's lost some weight but other than that and the spit ups he does if he eats to fast, he's doing okay at the moment. I was pretty gutted when I found out and I'll be gutted when I lose him - he's been such an awesome cat - but at least I can enjoy the time he has left. And if he's still around after my surgery, I'll have four weeks to spend at home with him.

Just got home from the hockey game and what a game it was! Caps were ahead 3-0 at the end of the 2nd period and my friend, Cheryl, proclaimed that she was the Caps' lucky charm (it was her first Caps game in a couple of years). Halfway through the 3rd period, the Bruins tied it up. I turned to Cheryl and told her she had jinxed us. Not only that but us Caps fans have this rule that if a newbie comes to a game and the Caps lose, that newbie can't come to another game. Lucky for Cheryl, Caps made a change in goal and all of a sudden, we were up 4-3. Add an empty net goal and it's a 5-3 Caps win. I have no voice left. I love hockey.

Made a few new hockey friends tonight: Dan and Joe, both friends of Cheryl's, and Liza, the woman who has the three seats next to ours. Dan and Joe are super nice and big hockey fans so that's very cool but Liza is hilarious! Our section has 5 seats along this ledge in the Acela Club. Behind us is the bar in the club so there are always people milling around. They like to stand behind us and most of the time, it's pretty annoying. Early in October my sister was visiting VA so she came to the game with me. All 5 seats that night were occupied by women (pretty impressive for a hockey game) and the guys standing behind us were kind being obnoxious. Liza stood up, spread her arms to block the view of the men behind us, and declared the row of seats the "wall of bitches". So that's how we now refer to ourselves.

Cheryl is one of those people who could become friends with a box of hair and get free stuff from Scrooge. She just has that kind of personality. She and Liza hit it of immediately. I knew they would; that's why I had Cheryl sit next to her. Turns out Liza owns a construction company and is good friends with several of the Caps players. Liza also has parties that the Caps players attend. Cheryl and Liza exchanged numbers because Liza said next time she has a party, she's inviting Cheryl and me. Cheryl just has this way with people.

Oh, and totally changing the subject, I have taught my cat, Harry, to high-five me. Tonight he did it in front of Cheryl so I have a witness. I stick my hand up, say "high-five" to him and he hits my hand with his front paw. I have got to get this on video.

You know it's going to be one of those days when you are awakened early in the morning by the sound of your UPS beeping because the power is off. Luckily, it was only off a few minutes but I couldn't go back to sleep because I was then paranoid the power would go off again before I could get ready for work.

You know the day hasn't improved much when you flush the toilet and the handle doesn't work properly. Three tries later and it finally flushes but I'm going to have to by a new handle and chain. Btw, taking off the toilet lid is one of those things I absolutely hate. I've changed out the guts of a toilet before so I know how everything works but when I was a kid I watched as a maintenance man took off the lid and water shot up and hit him in the face. I was traumatized.

You know the day has gone completely downhill when one of the cats throws up eight times in a span of 15 minutes. And he threw up in every room of the house. In some of the rooms he doubled up. Call to the vet, trip to the vet, cat has a temperature and medicine. Hopefully, we caught it in time. He does seem to be doing much better and he's eaten without touring the house and vomiting so that's good. Btw, this is the same cat who did the same thing one year ago and ended up in the vet hospital. Coincidentally, it was a week after he went to the vet to get his yearly shots - just like last year. Sense a pattern? We do too. The vet thinks he might be having a reaction to the rabies vaccine so next year we are going to experiment with the shot to see if that is the cause.

Oh, and to top off the day? I've been having these thoughts about townhouse fires over the last few days. I mean, it's been strong enough that I was getting a little anxious about it. Well, there was a fire today in a neighboring town. Five townhouses burned (no pets or people were hurt). The force is strong but just a tad off. Thankfully.

Dr. W called at 8:20am to say that Harry ate all his food and I cannot tell you all how relieved I was to hear that! He didn't eat anything all day yesterday but when she came in this morning, he had eaten all the RD (bland dry food) and all of the canned food. Boy got his appetite back! And (TMI alert) the squirts are gone! Whew!

He's still going to stay with Dr. W while I'm gone. He's taking about 4 different meds and she wants to make sure he is completely over it, but this went from a medical boarding to a spa getaway. She said they had him out and playing with a toy this morning and set him up so he can tunnel into the blankets in his little room. I know he'll love that.

Thanks so much to all of you. Maybe it was just a 'nature taking its course' thing but I really think all the good thoughts helped him. It sure as heck helped me!

Tomorrow I leave for Portland, OR. I'm flying out there to see my aunt and just hang out with family for a few days. I was really looking forward to the trip but now, not so much.
