Random New Year Stuff
Jan. 1st, 2008 04:19 pmThank you's to
tos_lover for the virtual gift and to
mingsmommy for the lovely Christmas card!
I have to go back to work tomorrow. I haven't been in the office since the 21st of December and I've loved every minute of it. I have been "on call" but that's only accounted for maybe 8 hours of actual work over the last 10 days. It's been so nice. I got a box of small appliances, a vacuum cleaner and some lamps over to The Bargain Loft Thrift Store and I did lots of cooking and tea drinking. Note to
tos_lover: I'm addicted to McVities now and thankfully, I found that World Market carries them.
Christmas was very uneventful. I got some great gifts from my boss/friend, Suzanne, my friend, Nancy, and my mom, aunt and cousin. I also got a hideous sweatshirt from my mom (I've told her a hundred times to never, ever buy me clothes) but she also sent a couple of cool gift cards so I can overlook the sweatshirt. Actually, I'll give it to the cats to lay on.
I'm a single girl, which means I have no hubby to give me nice little prezzies. So I have a tradition. Every Christmas my "pretend" husband gives me gifts. This year he got me a Cuisinart Griddler and a Cuisinart toaster. He's also going to buy me this amazing video camera that Suzanne found at a conference last month. It's better than anything I've seen in stores (HD, streams video to the web, night video, etc), it's the size of or smaller than a digital camera, and it costs half the price. It's also only available via internet, which is why it costs half the price.
The only resolutions I'm making this year are regarding writing. I want to at least match the four fics I finished and posted in 2007 and I want one of those to be the Brass/Annie sequel to "Open Ends". There are a couple of other Brass WIP's that I want to get done as well. Thanks to
wiccagirl24 I'd also like to dust off an Avengers novel I started back in '97 (yes, that's over 10 years ago) and a VTTBOTS fic that's been hanging out there forever.
The Washington Post has listed their list of What's In and Out for 2008 here. I was happy to see Vinho Verde on the In list. Thanks to my dad it has become my favorite wine.
I'm so happy to see my Caps have come alive. I went to the game just before Thanksgiving and they were pitiful. The next day they fired their coach and brought in Bruce Boudreau. Boudreau has really turned things around. Yes, the Caps have lost some games but they've played like a team that actually gives a crap now and they've scored 14 goals in the last two games (wins) against the Ottawa Senators.

Date: 2008-01-03 05:06 am (UTC)I love your idea about the husband. Sounds perfect. I'm sure he doesn't buy you eight books of which four are perfect and on your wish list and the others are a total WTF. But I'm not complaining too much.
Glad you got the excellent gift cards and I can't wait to read the sequel to "Open Ends". I'm really digging the whole Brass/Annie thing.

Date: 2008-01-04 06:59 pm (UTC)ADD doesn't sound like a bad thing right now. I get totally tied around the axle on one fic. I need to learn to switch over to different ones to get the muse kickstarted. Considering how focus-challenged I am you'd think that'd be how I work. But no.
I also need to spend more time with Brass and that always helps my muse. Haven't seen CSI for almost a week.

Date: 2008-01-07 05:12 am (UTC)I'd love to do the GF Smutathon--maybe write a Brass/Sofia first time fic--but the last time I got rolling on this Brass/Annie fic it got tossed aside for the Brasslove ficathon and it's taken me until now to get back into it. So, if you decide to do a GF fic, I will cheer you on. And maybe that distraction will do you some good. I do have to say it helps to have a few WIPs to fall back on every now and then.
And yes, definitely spend more time with Brass. Maybe seeing Jim in the LVPD windbreaker in the new episode this week will give your muse a kick.

I did it, I signed up for the Smutathon. And although I'm pretty sure I can recite Hollywood Brass by now, I'll be watching again this week. I wouldn't sideline your Brass/Annie fic, either. I'm glad you're rolling on it. It'll definitely be good to read new Brass.
And yes, I can't wait for teh windbreaker this week.
