Not sure what has gotten into me but I've now finished two fics over the last six months. First there was She Sells Sanctuary in the Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea fandom and just last week I posted to final chapter to a Brass/CSI fic called Shelter from the Storm. This one is a sequel to Forgiveness and features the return of Annie Kramer. I haven't finished two fics this close together since 2007. As painful as it was, changing jobs really was a good thing.

In other news first it was the right elbow, now it's the left. I have a surgery date of April 8th. I guess my left elbow was jealous and wanted a matching scar. I'm just a tad paranoid of getting another frozen shoulder so I'm glad I'm not waiting too terribly long but the freaking elbow hurts so much that I may take a kitchen knife and cut it off between now and April.

And lastly, my kitty-boy, Harry, the oldest of the trio, was diagnosed with esophageal cancer in early January. He's on prednisone now and that's helping him eat. My goal is to get him to his 12th birthday on April 28th. He's lost some weight but other than that and the spit ups he does if he eats to fast, he's doing okay at the moment. I was pretty gutted when I found out and I'll be gutted when I lose him - he's been such an awesome cat - but at least I can enjoy the time he has left. And if he's still around after my surgery, I'll have four weeks to spend at home with him.

So far I'm liking 2010. I've been on a Brass/Annie writing tear for the last couple of days. Say what?!

I've also been reading a lot of Avengers and New Avengers fic, as well as watching some NA episodes over the last couple of days. I've definitely renewed my crush on John Steed/Patrick Macnee. Damn, that man was hot on TNA! Something about men in their 50's. It's also made me think hard about revisiting my Avengers fic. I started it well over 10 years ago, before I discovered fan fic online, and though it starts with Steed/Tara, it's really a how Steed came to meet Purdey and Gambit fic with Mrs. Peel as the special guest star. It skips around and has some major plot holes but even with its issues, it reminds me how much more creative I was 10+ years ago.

And since this seems to be the time where I revisit old crushes, I've been tossing around an idea for a Voyage fic too. For some reason the holidays inspire me. Unfortunately, by the time I get all of these written, it'll be for New Year's 2011. After all, the grind gets back up to speed tomorrow (yes, Sunday).

Oh, and since PG isn't playing in the Bruins Legends Classic today, I wonder if he's at the Kings-Caps game at the Staples Center. I'll have to keep an eye on the crowd. I know he used to have Kings season tickets and this is a marquee game.

Next part of Forgiveness is up. It's also over on [livejournal.com profile] brasslove. Just FYI but this fic only has 5 parts so the next installment will post on Wednesday and the final should be up next Saturday.

Got struck by a bout of insanity on Friday and decided to have a yard sale today. It was only from 8am until noon but it meant being up at 6:45 to post signs. I don't do 6:45am even on a work day and it was made worse by a wicked bout of insomnia last night. If I ever was asleep, I dreamed that I was awake. As for the yard sale, the early morning started out very humid but around 8am, the wind picked up and the humidity and the gnats went away. The humidity did a number on my signs, causing them to curl up but the wind blew them upright so people found their way. And by 11:30am, just about everything was gone. That includes the old HP printer/scanner/copier and the bike that had been taking up space for years. The only thing I had left were a couple of VHS players (anyone want one) and a box of VHS tapes. I didn't expect them to sell. I was really surprised because there wasn't much haggling, which was a little disappointing because I like to haggle. The guy who bought my bike paid the full $50. Didn't even ask me if I'd take less. Of course it was a '79 Schwinn Traveler so it was worth every bit of the $50 and if he fixes it, it's probably worth even more.

The highlight of the day was a little Latino man who spoke no English but was all smiles. He wanted to buy some things but there was a language barrier, which caused him to be very shy and one of my neighbors showed up and bought up just about everything left. So the man left but around noon, as I was cleaning up, he and his wife came by again. They were checking out the few things I still had out but I remembered that earlier he was checking out some bath stuff I had since taken inside. Seeing him with his wife, it made sense. So I gestured for them to stay and went inside for the box of stuff. There were full bottles of lotions and body sprays and bath gels and I was ready to give it to them but the man wanted to pay and I thought I might insult him if I didn't accept something. So I let him have the hand held vacuum cleaner he was interested in and the box of toiletries for $2. And now I have two new friends who live down the block from me. Even though we can't understand each other at all.

When I get in a mood, such as for a yard sale, I get ruthless. There's this desk chair that has been in my computer room forever. Harry claimed it as his and would often curl up on this cushion I had put on the seat to keep it from being covered with cat hair. Well, I put the chair in the yard sale and it sold. Now poor Harry is missing his chair and I feel terrible. It really did need to go but Harry keeps going over to where it was and looking for it. I feel awful about it.

It's done! The freaking Brass/Annie fic that has taken me something like three years to write is done. Sure, I still need to read over this last part and it still needs to spend some quality time with [livejournal.com profile] tos_lover and I still need to incorporate the feedback I got on the last section but the freakin' fic is done.

I am so happy! I think I'm going to cry.
