So far, I'm really liking CSI after Grissom. This wasn't a spectacularly great episode but the cases were interesting and everyone got some decent screen time.



The best part of this episode was getting some Brass backstory! Jim missed the whole hippy thing. He was too busy in SE Asia (they've never actually said Vietnam--always SE Asia) keeping his head down and his feet dry. Ray is surprised Jim didn't drop some acid or smoke a little T. Brass doesn't cop to drugs but he does say things did get a little wild. I'd love to know Jim's definition of wild.

Other good stuff:

Jim's head tilt during the open, when the chicken head falls off and starts talking. I think that's the same suit PG is wearing at the 200th episode celebration. He looks really good in it.

Brass interviewing the manager on call. "Mr, Captain, Brass". The look on his face when she explained the combination was great.

"Nameste, I'm Silver"
"Police, I'm Brass"

"Congratulations, it's a boy" - at the sight of the body in the oil drum.

Brass had some great lines at Silver's place. PG looks very GQ with one hand in his pocket as he's listening to the Ed Begley Jr wannabe go on about the oil. Again, I love that suit.

Poor SuperDave. He tries to be so bold and then feels like he overstepped and apologizes to Catherine. But Catherine enjoyed his overshare

I won't mention that Nick and Ray are interviewing a suspect without a cop or detective present. It was just a matter of time.

Love that Nick is now the one sitting in Jim's office, discussing the case. Next they'll be sipping scotch together.

The hands, most notably, the thumbs, holding Gary's rap sheet are definitely not PG's. Must be his stand-in.

Loved Brass was with the girl from the chicken restaurant who was about the be handed over to immigration. He was using his soft voice. I love his soft voice.

I liked that Vartann was a non-player and Brass got most of the detective screen time. And all the good lines.

I really like Ray. I like that he's very smart but he's still got that new guy innocence and it's obvious he's got a lot to learn. I also love how all the cast is being utilized, especially Brass (so far). Heck, even RDH is getting more screen time now.

Saw it late last night. Couldn't wait. The show seems so fresh now that the new writers are aboard and WP is gone. IMO.

Didn't realize the significance of Nick in Brass's office till you said so. How awesome.

Great Brass scenes, and a few others with the rest of the cast. Particularly Ray's Mandarin (I believe) mad speech skillz. Not the best episode but it was pretty good.

It really does seem fresh, doesn't it? And I agree that part of the reason I'm liking it more is because WP is gone. He wasn't always in it a lot but if this is the result of him not being there at all, I like it! Not missing Warrick or Sara either and I'm still mostly indifferent to Riley.

You're right about it not being the best episode, especially compared to past episodes this season alone. But it was a nice, ordinary episode that kept me entertained for an hour.

And I love the Brass backstory addition. Excellent.

He mentioned Vietman in "A La Cart" but prior to that it's always been SE Asia so I'm thinking maybe he did some time in Vietnam and in Cambodia.

No, I have to download them. I'm not sure what episode they're showing in Australia atm, but I don't think Grissom has even left yet. LOL

They need to leave PG's hands in the episodes...there's nothing wrong with them! Gad, that drives me nuts when they do that.

Man, I can't spell today...I have to say, that is one of the things I really pay attention to, is whether or not they use his hands. And we get quite a few close-ups with him holding case files all the time. I pretty sure that they use his hands in The Happy Place, but I don't think they're his hands in Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda. Uhh...

Another thing that I loved about the SE Asia cannon, is him "keeping my head down and feet dry." I just loved that line.

Yeah, I know what you mean but I can't think of the name either. Wait, is it blocking? Or maybe that's done before they film. Whatever it is, I'm sure they have to do a lot of it with PG because of his shooting schedule. They're probably still finishing up while he's jetting home to NYC. It's just annoying to those of us who pick at nits.

Hah, I finally watched it (but skipped the commercials, I forgot!). I adored his exchange with Silver, that was a HOOT. And I like how he gets along w/Ray.

What the heck do they keep Vartan around for anyway?

Vartann could have been played by a cardboard cut-out. If they're going to have a token 2nd detective, I really wish they'd bring in another woman. As for Ray and Brass, I was afraid the writers were going to have them at odds with each other. I'm glad they didn't.

I've taken to recording just about every show I watch and playing it back on the weekends, when I can fast forward through the commercials. I think CSI is the only show I watch "live" but I DVR it as well.

CSI used to be about the only thing I watched live...now there's nothing. I just watched about five eps of CSI: Miami to get 'em off my DVR and that was...weird...
