My tamales arrived today! Very excited! I love tamales. These aren't the best but since I never got the name of that little Navajo woman in Arizona, these will have to do. I have a dozen pork and a dozen beef. The freezer is stuffed.

My dad's 65th birthday is tomorrow. He wants to take us out to dinner at the 94th Aero Squadron in College Park. I googled the place and it looks pretty interesting.

Had a pretty decent Christmas in spite of my downer mood. My one sister was on CO but youngest sister was here so that was good. We also have a very close family friend who usually spends Thanksgiving and Christmas with us so she was there too. I thought the only present was what my dad gave my sister and I on Christmas Eve but I was wrong. My step-mother gave my sister and I gift certificates to Elizabeth Arden. Have I mentioned that I love and adore my step-mother? And not just because she gives fabulous gifts. I got a sushi-making kit from my mom. That's kind of cool in that I love sushi but would never think to buy something like this. We have these big International markets around here and I know they have sushi grade fish. I've heard the rice is the tricky part. Let's see, also got some Orange hot chocolate mix, Moonstruck truffles (yay!) and orange sugar cookie mix from my cousin in Portland and a gift card from my aunt and uncle.

When I got back home last night I talked to my mom for a while. While we were talking, CSI came on and since she was watching it as well, we started talking about it. On Christmas Eve, while I was at my parent's house, we saw one of the commercials with a "Grissom moment" and that lead to a discussion on Grissom's departure. So, I give you random thoughts by die-hard CSI viewers over the age of 60 who only know what they see on the screen--or read in People Magazine.

My mother never saw the Grissom/Sara thing coming so it was a big surprise to her. She knew Sara was after Grissom but she never saw any interest from Grissom. However, when she watched the reruns, she then saw the hints. She doesn't like Sara and doesn't miss her. She does miss Warrick though. And she's very sad that WP is leaving and isn't sure she'll keep watching once he's gone. She's not so sure about LF but said she'd keep watching to see how it goes. She can't stand Hodges. I mean, cannot stand the air he breathes. She likes Nick a lot, doesn't care much for Greg (agrees that he was much better in the lab) and really likes Catherine (my mother is a lot like Catherine so that's not too surprising). However, while she doesn't like Sara, she thinks Sara is better for Grissom than Catherine would have been. I asked her if she ever hoped that Grissom and Catherine would get together and she said no, she didn't see them together. I think she really would have liked it better if Grissom never hooked up with anyone. Brass was on the screen and I said the only one I really like is Brass. Mom said "oh yeah, Brass is great. I love Brass too". Good answer, mom.

My dad is a huge Grissom fan and doesn't like Sara at all (also glad she's gone). He was a big Marg fan (loved her in China Beach and watched CSI because of her) however, "the season she turned bitchy" (I think he means S5) turned him off Catherine completely. Like I said, dad's a huge Grissom fan. He likes the quirkiness of the character. He said if they can make LF as interesting and quirky as Grissom, he'd keep watching. And except for Brass, I don't think my dad knows the names of any of the other characters.

My step-mother is a closet GSR shipper. She said she knew they were together and wasn't surprised at the end of "Way to Go". My dad never saw it coming, btw. My step-mother once called me up after an episode to ask me if I knew what was going to happen with Grissom and Sara. If she were younger, she'd be all over the GSR boards. She'll also keep watching CSI.

After talking to my mom for about an hour, my bestest friend ever called and we talked for over and hour and a half. It's our annual Christmas night phone call and I look forward to that most of all. Over the year we email back and forth and we might have the occasional chat or the birthday call but we sort of save it all for the Christmas call. We know we'll always be best friends so we don't feel like we always have to talk but when we do, it's nice that we can just pick up where we left off.

I am so glad you had a good Christmas!

Your parents' evaluations of the show and characters was great. I remember having a conversation with my 14 year old niece last year about the show...she loved Nick and I was all "Grissom is my favorite" and she got this disgusted look on her face, "Aunt Leese! He's ollllllldddddd." Ah, perspective.

I haven't been there in a couple of years (even though it's only about a mile from my house), but I really like that place. :) It's especially nice to go in the spring and have margaritas by the runway!

I saw one of those Grissom-moments countdown commercials... unfortunately it was his "losing balance" LH scene. :(

I still remember promising to send you a dozen tasty tamales sometime ago. *hides* New year, and whatnot. Make room for more! Would you like more pork? :)

Sounds like you had an awesome Christmas.

Reading what your parents think of CSI is interesting. No one I know around here shares my fan appreciation of CSI or my love of everything Brass. I think the only one I've shared that info with was my ex-roommate and he likes (the blonde one) Cath for obvious reasons. My dad was a huge fan.

Yay for good Christmas!

Different perspectives on shows are always good. It's amazing how different people see it.

And my best friend and I are the same way. When we talk it's always like no time has passed :)
