Just stuff

Wow, seems like it's been ages since I posted.
First, a little birthday biz to attend to. Um, just pretend I'm in the central time zone, where it's still May 23rd.
Hope your day was fabulous!
I bought a PS3 today. I bought it because I wanted to buy The Sopranos Season 6.2 on BluRay. I was going to buy a BluRay player however, while the TV I want to hook it up to is HD, I'd have to buy a new receiver too and I wasn't in the mood to mess with that right now. So the sales person suggested I buy a Playstation 3. It's the same price as a Sony BluRay and I can use it for other stuff. Seemed like a good idea. We'll see. Anyone have suggestions for games and such to go with it?
I just got over a Dexter obsession (holy crap, I love this show!), now I'm back into The Sopranos. I never saw season 6, although I know what happens in the finale, and I don't have HBO so I've always had to rely on the DVD's. After I finished with S2 of Dexter, I remembered that I bought season 6.1 of The Sopranos so I've been pacing myself, watching one episode a night while I'm on the treadmill. I forgot how much I love this show. Mob guys and serial killers. What does this say about me?
On a fic note, I'd love to see a good crossover with Brass and Tony Soprano. Did you know both characters went to Seton Hall? Plus there's that Newark connection.
Another thing I've gotten into? Law and Order: SVU. I'm always late to the game. I didn't start watching CSI until S5, I watched all of S1 and S2 of Dexter after S2 ended and I'm just now watching S6 of the Sopranos. With SVU I'm not so much into the characters as I am the cases. Most of what I've seen has been really good.
I'm addicted to Robek's Cardio Cooler. Just thought I'd throw that out there. I'm also addicted to blueberries and raspberries (I still blame
velocityofsound and her Brass/Sara friendship fic). Every year I get on some food kick. This year it's berries.
How happy am I that David Cook won AI? Stupid hairstyle aside, I liked him from the first time I heard him. Still, I just knew Baby Elmo was going to win so yeah, I was surprised. Apparently, I'm not the only one who thought he was completely overrated. I couldn't stand his 'aw shucks' attitude or his heavy breathing through every song, and honestly, every song sounded exactly the same.
Every year (well, almost every year), the girls get together in November. It used to be a beach trip because 4 of the 5 were on the East Coast. Last year, Tee moved to Arizona so that means 2 are West and 3 are still East. This year, since Bee always has to come East, I thought it would be new and different and fun if we all went to Vegas. I brought it up to the girls and they excitedly approved. We've been doing this since 2001, I think. These are all great friends I made in my first fandom and while we don't talk every day or even every 6 months and we've all drifted off to other things, we still look forward to our get together. Even if something happens and this trip doesn't work out, it's still pretty amazing that something like a 40+ year old fandom made us such good friends.
And just because I'm in love with his right thigh, not to mention his hand on the back of his head.

Date: 2008-05-24 05:08 am (UTC)Sorry, a bit distracted by that pic. I ran over to the Jim Brass Fansite (http://www.neptunienne.net/jimbrass/forum/) for more. You always manage to come through with some droolworthy PG pics. I needed that.
Now what was I gonna say? Oh yeah! PS3, too awesome. I'd love to recc some games but I'm more of an X-Box type of gal, although I can poke around. I had no idea that console allowed you to play BlueRay discs. Hmm...
Dexter is too cool for words. Can't wait for the new season. Have you been watching a lot of SVU on USA lately? I have. The season just wrapped and they were really good episodes too.

Date: 2008-05-24 05:31 am (UTC)I forgot about Playstation3 and Blu-Ray until the sales guy mentioned it but it makes sense since they're both made my Sony and Sony was trying to get the discs on the market. I'm hoping that new game that PG is doing the voice for will be available on PS3.
Dexter completely sucked me in. I loved, loved, loved S1. S2 started off a bit slow, mainly because of my complete hatred of Lila, but I ended up loving it as much as S1. Cannot wait for S3!
I just started watching SVU so I missed most of this last season. I'm having a great time catching up though.

Date: 2008-05-25 06:09 am (UTC)Sheesh, forgot to mention that most PS2 games are compatible with the new console. I've got one of those but haven't touched it in months. Where's my head at? I know, dreaming of PG in those jeans and on that hog.
Burnout Paradise (http://www.gamespot.com/ps3/driving/burnout5/index.html) is a game you ought to try. The idea and gameplay of this franchise is so awesome. If I had either a PS3 or 360 that'd be in my collection. Want something dark and creepy? Try FEAR or Condemned 2. Anything Tom Clancy related is awesome too. Those are my reccs.
SVU is a show you can just jump in and watch. The continuity on that isn't something you have to keep an eye out for and yes, the writing is fantastic. Same reason I watch Criminal Intent. Mariska and Kathryn on either show are the best.

Date: 2008-05-24 07:38 am (UTC)And I am joining the Dexter fanclub too. I bought season 1 about a month ago, but haven't sat down to watch it yet. I want to get season 2 soon, so when I do finally finish 1, I can just keep going.
About that picture...fucking awesome. I saw the rest over at the JB forum too. I can't stop staring at his shit-kickers though, on top of everything else you mentioned. I guess it's becuase I get to wear boots all day every day! Your friend is great for hooking you up with all the PG goodness.

Date: 2008-05-24 04:55 pm (UTC)I have Madden on my PSP. I haven't gotten remotely good at it though. Rock Band sounds interesting. Might have to check out that and Guitar Hero, I think. And definitely want Prototype, if it's available for PS3.
Those pics are yummy. I didn't post the website on the JB forum but you can go here to see more. I think he's in a total of six pics. I love the ones where he's in the group shot. He's just so damn yummy!

Date: 2008-05-24 02:47 pm (UTC)Yes, PS3's are handy for many things. Metal Gear, the LOTR games, rock band, lego start wars are supposed to be good.
I still need to see Dexter Season 2 it is on my netflix.
I did not get into CSI until a year ago so you are ahead of me. I did a summer marathon of the whole show.
I watched SVU when it was first on and almost cancelled. I have not seen it in a while though.
I LOVE blueberries have for years.
I hope the trip happens and is loads of fun.

Date: 2008-05-24 04:46 pm (UTC)I don't think Dexter S2 has a release date yet. I watched it on Showtime ON Demand because I was too impatient to wait.
Sad to say but the reason I love SVU is because of how dark the cases are. Plus, the few I've seen have all had kicker endings. I'm really impressed by the writing.
I've always loved blueberries but this year, I've gone mad for them. They're like the fruit equivalent of M&M's. I can't stop eating them. But I've been putting them in Greek yogurt and adding in raspberries, bananas, pecans or walnuts. Yum!
Back when CSI first started, I tuned in to check it out because there was this character (Brass) I thought I might like. But I couldn't get past his dorky hair style (yes, I've now come to love the dorky combed forward hair) so I passed on the show. Really glad I gave the show another viewing five years later.

Date: 2008-05-24 04:54 pm (UTC)I know about Dexter, but I have no TV at all. *sighs*
Yes, the darkness of SVU is what makes it interesting I completely agree.
LOL that sounds amazing. Darn my college budget! Next month maybe.
I should do a post of how I got into the show. It is a long story, but I am very glad I did. And Brass is made of awesome.

Date: 2008-05-24 05:42 pm (UTC)Problems with comcast earlier in the semester. Basically my tiny flat screen that I have had for years has a DVD player. Better than nothing.
I read a lot or watch things like Avengers or My Family. ^_^
Thanks glad it went to someone. That really was beyond nice of you.

Date: 2008-05-24 03:16 pm (UTC)Want? I can't return it anywhere, so it's just collecting dust now.
We love ours. Even regular DVD's look great, but we have the HDMI cable hooked up, so that might be it.
The Viking game is awesome, I've rented it and am considering buying it. We bought it because of Ratchet & Clank, and it is awesome. We mostly have movies for it though. :) Newer PS2 games will play fine, but older ones are a little glitchy.

Date: 2008-05-24 05:47 pm (UTC)PS3 for the Blu-Ray is a very good idea. That was how Bri talked me into one. Two birds, one stone. Rock Band is the game we've got. It's pretty cool I have to admit.
And I still haven't hooked up the Dexter eps yet. I think I've seen one of them, but it has to be real late night viewing in our house.
Omg, PG on a motorcycle. I'm not sure it gets better.

Date: 2008-05-24 06:06 pm (UTC)I just about squeed my pants at the link you posted. Holy freakin' crap, those are just amazing! In the immortal words of Randy Jackson, AI poet extraordinaire, yo baby, check it out. PG in jeans is on fire, like molten hot, dawg!
Seriously, it does not get any better than the sight of PG on a Harley. And now I'm off to day dream about Brass in jeans and on a Harley.

I kind of just stared at the pics frozen, wondering if what I was looking at was really him on a hog. And chinos. I know, dead horse, but *chinos*.
But yeah, I'm sure they'll post up a stream of pics like they did last year, so hopefully we've got more coming.

Date: 2008-06-04 04:25 pm (UTC)I started out watching SVU. I mean if you want to delve in waaaayyyyy back, I guess the first 'crime show' I got into was American Justice. So the cases, and solving of them is whats always intrigued me.
Then SVU. Then a nice little show from the same series, CI. A dic ted. *Nods* Im bad for watching shows though. Even the ones I love. I always miss them.
Then we had a family member staying over. She begged for me to help her find her show on my satellite. "You don't watch CSI? Whats wrong with you?" She points out characters, and apologises for the 'Dead wood'. She was explaining Brass. And I felt silly, because I thought the guy was pretty cool. This was season three I think. I liked the snark, but I kept my mouth shut, and kept catching the odd episode. Started looking up stats and information on the web. Found things like fanfic, and RPs..
The rest they say is.. well, ongoing really. Now theres Dexter. And Pushing Daisies, and.. shows mentioned on blogs, Ive never heard of. *Laughs* Im still horrible at keeping up with TV shows. But CSI is one I actually manage to catch more often than not!
Funny how that goes!
Rockband is pretty cool. Even a nongamer like me plays it occasionally. And its a lot of fun to have around when you have people over. Impromptu rockband parties are very fun! Does PS3 have tetris? Im still very much addicted to tetris.

Date: 2008-06-05 04:16 am (UTC)Dead wood? Wow, I can't believe she called him that. He's definitely the coolest guy.
I love Pushing Daisies too and can't wait until it returns. It's such a clever show with great characters and it looks pretty in HD.
Not sure about Tetris--I'll have to check it out. I'd also like to see if it's got an old school game called Centipede. I was completely addicted to that in college.
Btw, I haven't left any feedback but I've been enjoying what you and londoncsi are posting on the Forum. I need to start a comments thread. Also, I finally caught up with the RPG. Cold, wet, heroic Brass? *thud*

We've been having a lot of fun with that luckymatch thing that we've put on the site. It was just something we thought you all might get a kick out of.
And yes.. the RPG. *Laughs* Not a bad image. Did you see the sketch Jess did for it?! I was way impressed!
OK.. Im conversing in your Journal. Don't know if thats a 'nono'.. but I had to share because you made me think of it. I mentioned before where the 'thread' of liking CSI came from. And in writing the next 'Cat' installment, a reference crossed my mind.
Hawaii 5-0! Good God, I used to watch that ages ago! So really, the whole thing started back when I was a Kid!
Figured you might know the show, if you don't, then Ill go on my crazy little way. If you do.. well.. *Grins*
Book em Dano!

Date: 2008-06-06 02:05 am (UTC)Never watched Hawaii 5-0, mainly because Jack Lord's hair scared me but the theme was awesome! Did you ever watch The Avengers?
Haven't seen the sketch but I will check it out.
