DVDs and Upcoming Travels
Jun. 21st, 2007 10:37 pmI have two trips booked for July. First trip is to Denver the 2nd through the 6th and the second trip is out to Portland, Oregon the 26th through the 31st. I've never been to Oregon so I'm really excited about that trip. Plus, I get to see my cousin and her family, as well as my aunt, who's flying in from Oklahoma. We haven't seen each other in about 5 years so they haven't seen the new, improved me and I haven't seen my aunt since she got her new heart. My cousin offhandedly mentioned going to the beach and that has now evolved to us getting a house right on the water for two nights. Seriously, the excitement is going to make me pass out. Oh, and extra cool part? When I was flying back from Vegas, this United pilot sat between my friend and I. Well, what route does he fly? The non-stop DC to Portland. I'm going to be on his flight! I'd mentioned to him that I was hoping to get to Portland so he said if I did and I was on his plane, make sure I said hi. I know he'll remember me. Before I ever knew he was a pilot I pegged him right away as retired Air Force because he had to make sure that the little clip that holds the tray in place was straight. Air Force guys are like that.
Tomorrow is DVD buying day. I have a long shopping list that includes the most recent Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea DVD release and the Al Pacino collection that has "Local Stigmatic" (finally!) along with "Looking for Richard", both PG movies.
I was really hoping the whole HD/Blu-Ray war would be resolved because I have $130 in Best Buy Rewards and I wanted to buy a new HD DVD player. If only the stupid porn industry would pick which one they're going with so we can get on with it. Crikey, it didn't take them this long to pick VHS over Beta, did it?
On a random kitty note, Harry has taken it upon himself to be Tucker's personal groomer. Of course how could Harry refuse when Tucker is constantly head-butting him?

... though I kind of cringe at PG's potential accent in "Local Stigmatic". Al Pacino's horrid cockney had me in stitches, but I always feel embarrassed for my favourite actors if I think they sound silly.
And aaah, "Looking for Richard"... *fangirls, fangeeks, etc*
And yep, the forum's back up. The disturbance only lasted a couple of hours, thank goodness.

Date: 2007-06-22 09:23 pm (UTC)I've driven through Portland, but never stayed past a lunch, but I have never heard a bad thing said about it. House on a lake sounds like it's made of awesome.
And regarding the BluRay v. HD thing, chances are it's BluRay, 'specially after Blockbuster went with BluRay and almost everyone and his uncle pulled their HD orders. Maybe they'll all force the pr0n industry's hand.

Date: 2007-06-24 05:08 pm (UTC)I cringe when my fav folks do stuff that may not come off well. I have no explanation other than it embarrasses me (pretty sure it's an English, stick up our butt type thing)
I don't think this is an English thing. I always feel the same way when I'm watching my fave with friends or family and they don't like the actor the way I do. When I was a kid, I'd cringe when my mother would watch Voyage or The Avengers with me.
Al Pacino's accent is terrible but it's terrible in a train wreck kind of way. However, sometimes those hairstyles PG sported in his early acting years are worse than any bad accent. But the real reason I'm looking forward to Stigmatic is because I've never seen it and PG is in all of it. I have LfR and while PG looks incredibly hot, he's only in it a few minutes.
I've never been to Portland and yet, I can see myself settling there when I retire. I asked my cousin if there's any negatives to the area and she said it can get a bit dreary in the winter. I can do dreary. And even more awesome, the house is on the ocean.

Date: 2007-06-26 04:02 am (UTC)Your trips sound really interesting, and as I haven't been anywhere in America it would be cool if you could tell us all about them.
And your pets sound so adorable. Just great.
I've seen Paul in Striptease and 3 Men and a Baby - what do you think are the best Paul movies?

I've been to Denver a few times but only on business so I didn't get to do much. My parents have a second home south of Denver and my sister and her family live out there so this is a family vacation of sorts. I've never been to Portland so I'm really looking forward to that trip. I'll be sure to post all the details when I get back. I'm sure I'll have lots to tell.
I'm biased but the kitties are pretty adorable. Even more adorable now that everyone is healthy and getting along.
My favorite Paul movies are "A Question of Faith" and "Air Force One". I love his extreme cuteness in "The Negotiator" but he's only in it about 10 minutes and I hate what happens to his character.

Date: 2007-06-28 03:56 am (UTC)My cousin and her family live in Beaverton. They moved there five years ago and absolutely love it. Other than the beach, I have no idea what she has planned for us but knowing my cousin, she'll have it all planned out. She's very organized. To be honest though, I could spend the entire time at the beach. I love the ocean.
The bookstore sounds great. Reminds me of this awesome bookstore my friend and I went to in London. It as at least four stories and we spent the entire day there.
