Greg Garcia is the coolest
Feb. 19th, 2007 05:00 pmSo who is Greg Garcia? He's the writer/director/producer of My Name is Earl. Why is he the coolest? Because he wrote an episode of My Name is Earl that aired on 1/18/07 in which a guy named Josh died in an unfortunate Murphy bed incident.
Earl and Joy were going to give Josh a funeral but realized they didn't know anything about him--until they went to his apartment and found out he was an internet junkie who IM'd frequently, and posted on TWOP as whojackie. Why is this relevant? Because back in November '05, Greg Garcia created a user named whojackie on Television Without Pity who talks about how he's got this Murphy bed. And then just before the episode airs, whojackie posts again with this particular passage:
No, I don’t think shows should do more meta jokes that cater to the online bloggers and I’m sure everyone at Television Without Pity Dot Com agrees with me.
In the episode, there's a flashback of Josh reading aloud (he mentions in his post that he talks out loud when he types) the above mentioned line from his post on TWOP. That was before he got crushed in his Murphy bed. What's even better? Crabman, Joy and Earl also posted on TWOP in the same thread--after Josh's demise. The whole thing was awesome! I mean seriously, inventing whojackie for a one off episode a year later? Brilliant!
