Well, frak me

If last night was food fail, tonight was food win. I stopped at Whole Foods, got much better, hair-free spring rolls, a lump crab cake, some rock shrimp (for the weekend) and these awesome pumpkin/cranberry/walnut and maple/walnut cookies. I love the cookies at Whole Foods. Heck, I love Whole Foods. Just wish there was a bigger one near me. I could live in that place.
Today at work they announced yet another re-org. When I first heard that it was coming (a couple of hours before the formal announcement), I can't tell you how demoralized I was. My company should be called "Management Re-organizing Constantly" because that's all we do. We have re-orged at least once, sometimes twice, every year since 2007. And it sucks because they always announce these things right before the holidays and then we, the people in the trenches, have to give up our holidays to make it happen. This is why I mostly hate Christmas. I never get to actually enjoy Christmas. My boss doesn't think it's going to be too bad but right now, no one really knows what's going to happen. Stay tuned...
So for some time us Brass fans have been complaining about the tight collars on the shirts Brass wears. Let's face it, PG does not have a pronounced neck and this is made much worse when he wears a tie. It pinches his neck and makes his face look so much fuller than when he wears an open collar. Tonight I noticed that he's either wearing a shirt with a bigger collar or he's got the top button undone. Whatever, he looked so much better. His face didn't look as round and well, fleshy. Personally, I think PG has not been well since last season and he's getting over whatever it was. He really looked bad (bad as in unwell) in the second half of last season but tonight he (and Brass) looked much more like the Brass of seasons past, short hair and all. His face looked thinner, he seems more engaged and interested, and he even sounds better. There for a while, his voice was even sounding a little rough. Not sure what was going on but I hope this Brass sticks around.
Brass was at the initial crime scene and I like that they've kind of brought back his exposition but it's not the same as the good old days. Still, I like Brass talking about his days in Jersey, like when he tells Ray and Nick that he used to skinny dip in the quarry and they'd find a dead body wearing cement shoes. And the dead guys were always named Anthony. I would love to read a good CSI/Soprano crossover. Just imagine Brass and Pauly Walnuts being childhood friends/rivals.
Brass split time with Katee Sackoff's Detective Reed and I have to say, I didn't mind so much. I like Reed's sense of humor: "I've got point. Don't shoot me in the ass" she tells Nick and Ray. I also thought it was funny that while Brass gets to drive a testosterone-mobile, Reed is relegated to a Ford that looks like what you'd expect to see a detective drive but has zero coolness.
I still wish Brass and company would do the warrant serving, interrogating, and interviewing but since CSI seems to be set on this path that CSI's are omnipotent, I should just suck it up.
As for the episode, I actually liked it. Weddle and Thompson wrote it, Katee Sackoff was in it, and I loved the title, Fracked, and the BSG shout-out:
Reporter: "Have you ever heard of fracking?"
Ray: "It sounds like a sci-fi expletive."
It definitely had an Erin Brockovich feel to it and the writers even acknowledged it with Ecklie (he looks really good, btw) telling Catherine and Brass "this isn't Erin Brockovich".
Definitely some clunkers so far this season but the last couple have had the feel of old CSI.
