Today was the first "normal" day at work since...the end of April. I left at 6:45pm, got home around 7:15, and cooked actual food for dinner. I remember days like this. They were pretty okay.

The all-nighter last week went until 4am so it wasn't quite all night. I got home around 4:30 and didn't get to sleep until after 5am. Then it was up again at 9:30 and back to work. We got the bulk of the spreadsheet done. It's massive, with something like 20 tabs to enter data but a good chunk of it is locked. Everything has to tie out, which was complicated enough, but compounding that were formula errors that made it a little hard to tell if we were tying out. I found out today that the errors were only in our spreadsheet (we were provided this specific spreadsheet by the Division). Anyway, we made all four deadlines, the last one going in at 11:45pm. It was a long couple of days. And it just continued into this week. Monday night I didn't roll out of the office until midnight and last night it was going on 10pm. Now you see why I was so excited to get home so early?

My cats have been super clingy since I got back from CO. With these horrendous hours, I think they think I'm abandoning them every time I leave the house. My girl, Sophie, has been glued to my side every night.

I am soooo glad you are done with the crazy craziness at work. I know it'll still be crazy, but that's manageable. Now I'm off to read Part 2. Kisses.

I don't know that all of the craziness is over but I think we've weathered the worst of the storm and now we just a lot of rain. With the occasional hail storm. Of course there's still the Evil Nazi Lady, Leader of the Crazy (she's at the Division level, one level above me), so some amount of horribleness will always exist. Unless I can figure out a way to push her off a mountain.

I saw your review (thank you!). I think the flashback was something you told me to expand so I'm thinking a lot of that was new to you.

Boo to evil nazi women. It really does suck when one person can ruin your day, especially when you're working your ass off.

And yeah, I think most of the flashback was new for me, and I loved it.

I think I've finally figured her out so that helps but I still dread it whenever her number pops up on my caller ID. Luckily, my boss, who sort of liked her at first, now despises her as well, especially after she tried to tell my boss how she should do her job.

yay for getting home at a reasonable hour! it's nuts that you just returned from vacation and had to immediately jump into some serious craziness. i hope you get more days like today :o)

They like to make a person pay for taking vacation. Usually it's crazy right up to the vacation and then immediately after. I knew there would be a lot of work to do but I didn't think it would be as bad as it was.

Whew! The intensity in Chapter 2 made me ache for Brass AND Annie. Great job digging into the mess and spilling it out into the middle of them. Annie is wonderful! Compassionate but measured in her realistic view of what's happening. I really love this story :-)

I just realized I never thanked you for your comment. I'm glad you had the reaction that you did to this chapter because that's what I was going for. It's sort of past and present colliding and it is a mess. I'm glad you think Annie is wonderful because I love the character. We only got a glimpse of her and her past with Jim but it was enough. She's a captain so she's seen a lot, she's a realist, she knows Jim, and she's tough. She's the perfect storm.

The kitties are getting better now. But it's nice to have them waiting by the door or sitting on the nearby stairs when I get home at night. I think they were taking me for granted.

I hope you're enjoying the fic. It gets really, really angsty and then it gets a little lighter. Just a little.

And you posted that the night that was the shittiest I've had out here. Took my mind off of work for a bit. I look forward to more. You're teh awesome!

Work is starting to get a little better. It's 2:30 on Sunday and I've only had a couple of emails so far. This is a good sign.

I'm so happy to know that I posted on your shittiest night out there. Writing has been taking my mind off work to so it's good to share that. I'm glad you have something to look forward to now as well. San Antonio is a great town.
