Happy Birthday, Patrick Macnee!

When I was 13, I discovered The Avengers. More specifically, when I was 13, I discovered Patrick Macnee as John Steed. I crushed big time. Then again, I don't know too many female Avengers fans who didn't crush on Steed. Today Pat is 85 and "living only the best life" in Palm Springs. That deserves a tip of the bowler and a glass of bubbly.

Btw, my name, bunchofgrapes, was chosen as a tribute to Steed and his love for the grape.

Ooooooh, I only just noticed this. John Steed was my first ever hero. I remember being around 7 or 8, watching the New Avengers and just melting. That was when the 'older man' thing started.

Yeah, I was the same age. The same result. I asked Pinewood Studios if I could come to watch a shoot and they said yes, booked a day for me to go in, everything. Then my mum took me down to Iver (close by) to stop over with one of her friends for the night before, and ended up eating cinnamon toast with her mate, chatting and drinking tea all morning, so we didn't get to the studio til the PM set-up, and had missed Steed and Purdey filming that morning! Just saw Gareth Hunt buckling with a Chinese baddie. Seriously pissed. It's one of the things in life I've never forgiven my mother for.

My pleasure! I've introduced a great many people over the years. Now if I could just get these GSR shippers and X-Files shippers to realize the first and best UST couple has always been Steed and Mrs. Peel.

I know that episode! It was "Trapped". My best friend hated that Chinese baddie but I loved the fact that Steed broke his arm. I'm such a hurt/comfort junkie. I know a lot of people give The New Avengers a bad rap but I loved it. Steed was so freakin' hot! And I loved Purdey. Gambit was okay but he walked like a penguin.
