bunchofgrapes: (kitty - focused)
This morning I woke up to the sound of youngest cat, Tucker, growling. Since Harry can be a major pest and he was next to Tucker, I thought maybe he was being annoying and Tucker had had enough.

Later in the day, I noticed Tucker lying in the litter box (this reminds me of a little kid who falls asleep on the toilet). This is always a sign that his interstitial cystitis is flaring up. I have anti-inflammatory drugs, which is about the only thing to treat it, so I gave him one and luckily, he took it fairly easily. But it takes some time before he feels better and in the meantime the poor kitty was lying on the floor, growling in pain. Thankfully, I remembered that I still have about five pain sticks so I gave him one while he was lying in the litter box. He didn't fight me at all so I knew he was really hurting and about an hour later and he was up and about. He's still not feeling all that great but he's doing better. Poor little guy. This has been an on-going issue for him since September. It goes away for a week or so and then it's back for a few days. In those few days though, he's miserable.

And for anyone who has a cat who has had cystitis or a urinary tract infection, you've probably had them squat around the house as they try to find some relief. Tucker's place of choice? The bathroom sink. It's just a little disconcerting to walk into the bathroom and see your cat sitting in the basin but whatever makes him feel better works for me.

Anyway, tomorrow is Tuck's 3rd birthday. I really hope he grows out of this because otherwise, he's got a lot of years ahead of him to suffer through it.
