New Orleans is sinking...
Aug. 30th, 2005 10:52 pmOkay, so maybe this journal thing wasn't such a great idea. I think of all kinds of things to write in it but I never get the chance to update. So tonight's my chance.
First of all, I want to say how badly I feel for all the people affected by the hurricane. A couple of years ago, Isabelle came through here. It was a pretty scary night--mainly because it was night and all I could see were the trees bending in ways trees should never bend. But this was a category 1 hurricane and I wasn't on the coast. I can't even imagine the devestation Katrina has caused. I know my company has several offices affected. Two are situated very close to Lake Ponchatrain and are full of water. All our employees haven't been accounted for yet either. We also have shipyards at Avondale and Pascagoula that were affected, not to mention Gulfport, Bay St. Louis and probably a few other places I don't know. Luckily, I work for a very large corporation and they can and will help out these families.
And now for something completely different. My rant about WIP's. I just don't get writers who post parts of a story and then don't update for months at a time. I understand that RL thing and all but to not post updates for months at a time is absolutely ridiculous--especially when they keep writing other stories and posting chapters to those. I have a story that's in chapters but it's not done. Yeah, I could start posting chapters but that just goes against everything I've learned as a writer. I can't do it until the entire story is done. I wish these two ladies would do the same. I really used to admire their work but I've completely lost my respect for them.
These lyrics have been running through my head since this morning. Thanks Tragically Hip. I guess it beats the hell out of The Roof is on Fire by Bloodhound Gang. Ah, but that's for another day.
Bourbon blues on the street, loose and complete
Under skies all smokey blue-green
I can't forsake a dixie dead-shake
So we danced the sidewalk clean
My memory is muddy, what's this river that I'm in?
New Orleans is sinking man and I don't wanna swim
