Last week's episode was kind of meh. This week I couldn't keep the brain's straight but who cares because this episode made me very, very happy.
Tonight we learn about Jim's relationship with his dad. Brass is talking to the young son, Declan, of one of the brain donors while the wife is with DB. Brass sees the kid sitting on the bench and sits down next to him. The kid says something about how Brass is sorry for his loss and Brass says that he is.
Brass: Did you get along with your dad?
Declan: Did you get along with yours?
Brass: No, he took a belt to me. He was tough. He was a cop too. He was not a happy guy. I was 15 before I had the balls to belt him back. I popped him in the jaw. I could tell it hurt him too. Never felt better, never felt worse.
And then after DB is done talking to the wife, he joins Brass in the corridor. Brass thinks something is up because of how quiet Declan was.
DB: Call Seneca PD. They had a cabin up there. Vacations can be stressful
Brass: I wouldn't know.
DB: Awwww
No sympathy for Jimbo
They've moved the door to Brass' office. Now it's in front of his desk. It used to be to the side of his desk.
DB is on his way to Brass' office. He's on the phone with his wife and at the end of the call, he tells her he loves her. Brass hears this and the face he makes is priceless. I love that they have the two old guys again. Brass missed Grissom but now he's got DB and everything seems right with the world again. Brass shows DB pictures of Declan's dad's dead body and points out that there's no way the guy killed himself so they're looking at murder. Way to go, Brass! Actually getting to use those detective skills to detect.
After they arrest one of the killers, Brass and DB see Declan in the waiting room. DB asks Jim if he should take a pass at him but Jim ways he's got this one. Brass knows he connected with the kid earlier and it's nice to see him be the one to talk to the kid and not DB or Nick for once. Brass really is good with kids (except for that really bizarre scene with the little girl in Squeegel). Brass sits down across from Declan
Brass: Remember when I took a swing at my dad? Never felt better, never felt worse? Well the better lasted like 15 seconds. The worse, 40 years and counting.
Brass talks to the kid some more, trying to get Declan to tell him what he saw. The kid says that his dad pushed him down the stairs and that he and his mom were always fighting. He then says his mom didn't kill his dad. Brass immediately knows what he's about to say next and tells him not to say another word. But the kid says he shot his dad. And he never felt better.
The episode fades to the credits with the look on Jim's face.
I should mention that as PG gets older, he's sounding more like Boston and less like New Jersey. It really comes out in this episode.
Like I said I kind of have no idea what really happened but honestly, with all the personal Brass stuff, I could care less.
And can I just say that this little revelation about his dad goes perfectly with what I've written in my Brass/Annie fic? Boo-yah!
