Way to Go redux

Okay so this is something that's bugged me ever since the CSI season finale and I don't think I've seen it discussed anywhere else so I'll put it here.

I always wondered what Grissom thought when he heard Brass had been shot? Did he ever know where exactly Brass was when he told him about Willie's brother? I mean, did he realize that Jim was in the hotel room with Willie at the time? If he hadn't told Brass about Sammy being dead, things might not have gone down the way they did so in a way, would Grissom blame himself?
