Look! Brass Actually Does Stuff!

I think I liked this episode. Well, except for that one part...

I definitely liked the first half but after Ray and Riley are taken hostage, the episode really bogged down. I think Brass's body language as he's standing around with the CSI's and the SWAT captain said it all: just casually standing there, hands clasped in front of him, looking incredibly bored. Yeah, right there with you, Jimbo. I just didn't get a sense of urgency or threat over the tweaked out 14 year old. He didn't make me believe he was really a loose cannon. Still, I do like Ray and I'm really loving CSI 2.0. I've come to realize just how dull the show had gotten (I mostly hated S7 and only started liking S8 after the writer's strike). It's definitely gotten a boost with the new writers--and more Brass!

One of the things I love about Ray is that he's still learning. He doesn't know the codes yet and he doesn't get to carry a gun.

Catherine's phone rings after their little "CSI's play cop" paintball game. We see along with her that it's Brass calling. She gives us a little smile when she sees the name. I squee a little. Catherine as supervisor 2.0 is much better than her first attempt back in S5. She's now huggy Cath, supervisor-who-cares 2.0. I hear that in one of the future episodes, the team will all hold hands and Cath will lead them in Kumbaya. Over pancakes.

Looks like PG got attacked by the dye job. When he's standing inside the house, his hair looks unusually dark. Where are the flecks of silver on the sides? Whoever decides he needs to dye his hair needs to be taken out back and beaten upside the head. However, at the end of the episode, we see the return of the silver sides. Makes me think they filmed the end first, before the evil attacked his hair.

Look at Catherine and Brass working the case together! They talk about how the shooting went down, they go to the hospital. Where have these scenes been until now? Why did we have to wait until S9 to get Brass actually working a case? Previously, CSI would show up, Brass do his little exposition, then he would disappear. Listen to him, actually pointing out the tattoos on the "gangbangah". Again, loving CSI 2.0.

Brass looks a little apprehensive as he enters the room where the dead guy is. Not sure if it's because it's a dead guy or because he's having a bad flashback about hospital beds.

When Ray and Riley enter the basement and they see all the PCP stuff, shouldn't they have called hazmat and the PD? If the chemicals were so bad, shouldn't they have had masks? What's the point of wearing the white suits if they weren't wearing the whole outfit? Also, when they heard the phone ring in the closet and discover the room, shouldn't they have stood back and called Mitch and had him clear the room? It almost seemed like Ray and Riley were doing everything they could to be taken hostage. And then of course there was that whole "lack of urgency" thing about getting them out. Like I said, I thought this part dragged. And was a bit boring.

Brass tells Ray he expected him to say what he said about not giving up on the kid. I'm wondering if Ray will brush off on Brass or if Brass will brush off on Ray.

Catherine hugging Ray. Not sure about that. I liked the Ray seemed hesitant but then finally sort of hugged her back but I definitely felt his apprehension. I'm agreeing with those of you who think his wife is dead.

So we can see their purty faces. Duh.

Ooooh, I love reading your posts before I watch the show, that way I know just what to look out for. And tonight it's going to be dark hair/grey hair. Lolz.

ETA: Have watched the ep. Yes, the dye was overly done and the last part of ep was definitely filmed first. Yay for continuity. That smile that Cath had when he called? That was a total "I've got a secret" smile. IMO, that's the biggest Cath/Jim are doing it moment so far in the show.
I loved how PG did the whole dead guy thing. I love how PG remembers this stuff about his character, coz you know the writers/director didn't tell him that Brass doesn't like dead bodies.
And note to PG. Lose the top button, pleaaaaaaase.

I'll have to go back and watch it again. I somehow missed his hair color. Normally I catch it right away.

Anyways, I was reading at other boards how they think Jim is turning into Jim from the Pilot. He is not himself anymore. Of course, they chalk it up to Grissom leaving and not having anyone to talk to or share drinks with.

I think different. He is definitely not the ass he was in the Pilot. He was bored in this episode, just look at him. So was the rest of the team. There was nothing he could really do but just stand there and coordinate over the radio. They also say he looks tired. I think he would be too, after all the CSIs are put in peril every 3-4 episodes. He worries about them.

And he shares all his thoughts and has drinks with Cath. They are so doing it.

Rest of my thoughts are at the JB forum.

It's not that I wasn't a Brass/Cath shipper, it's just that for a while, it was Sofia for me.

But knowing Sofia will probably not make an appearance again, and Cath is still there, and sharing some awesome scenes together...my preferred ship is now Brass/Cath. I've made the switch.

Although I have to say, your fic, A Work in Progress really opened my eyes to the chemistry between the two. It's one of the best fics I've read with those two, not that I've read a lot in my time, but you made it seem so believable. So, thanks for turning me on to this ship!
