"it's a rat writ, writ for a rat"

Bonus points for the person who can name the movie that came from--or at least tell me who said it.

So Friday night I come home from taking the boys to the vet. This particular doctor has been my cat's vet for years and years. She put Basil to sleep and in February, she put Emma to sleep. And she cried with me both times. Back in February, she left the clinic so that she could start her own cat clinic. She signed an agreement saying she wouldn't steal away the patients but a couple of months ago, she emailed me to see how the kitties were doing and I told her about newbie kitten, Tucker (who is now 9 lbs and the same size as Harry). Long story short, I'm now taking my cats to her and since I didn't care much for the other place after she left, I'm happy again. So are the cats. They were so not stressed that both Harry and Tucker fell asleep in the carrier on the way home. That's never happened before.

So what's all this got to do with rats you ask? Because when I got home from the vet I happened to notice that one of the kittens that was born in my back yard back in April was hanging around my front yard along with the regulars. She wouldn't let me get near her so I went back inside and watched her through one of the windows. I noticed she was hanging around this one spot in the yard and upon closer examination, I realized what had her attention: a big, huge dead rat. It was dusk out but I'm thinking great, tomorrow is supposed to be hot and humid and the smell of decomp is going to start stinking up the place pretty quickly. I had to do something so I got a shovel, picked up dead huge rat and tossed him near some trees thinking some other animal would make a feast of him (they did too because the carcass is gone). I've never been so disgusted in my life but at least it was dark out so I didn't have to actually see it.

My theory is that one of the stray cats in the neighborhood left it as a thank you for feeding them. Note to stray cats: not really into your dead, stinky gifts, thanks. Oh, and I'm sure a couple of my neighbors think I'm a bit loopy. I was standing in the front yard with a shovel, not really doing anything but standing there, as I tried to work out a plan for dead rat and then waited until it got dark out so no one could see what I was dumping when I had a plan. Oh, and I was also waiting for the real estate agent showing the townhouse two doors down to get her potential buyer inside because I figured seeing a neighbor haul away a dead rodent might not be a good selling point.

Work has been an evil bitch lately so when the weekend rolls around, I don't have the energy or the inclination to do much of anything. Yesterday, after I did some of the work I brought home with me, I watched the first disc of BSG, season 2.0. That show is so good! [livejournal.com profile] inamberclad got me hooked on it earlier this year so the fact that I watched all four episodes last night is all her fault--in a good way of course. This season picks up after Adama is shot twice in the chest. I liked the parallels to Brass getting shot at the end of S6 except that BSG did the follow-up to Adama getting shot about 200 times better. There's a scene in one of the future BSG episodes where Adama is standing in front of a mirror, looking at the surgery scar. I'd love it if CSI did something like that with Brass but I don't think they even remember Brass was shot. They brushed the whole thing under the carpet after the 7x03.

Really looking forward to the new season of CSI, if only because I'm really looking forward to new Brass. I've been reading spoilers but not like I did in the past. Then again, it's not like any of the sites actually spoil much about Brass. I've also been watching some of the S7 episodes. I need to clear them off the DVR to make room for this season but I'm having a hard time. PG looks so good in HD that I don't want to delete the episodes.

We used to have this tabby, Oreo, who went out and brought his catches of the day and presented them as gifts to us. And would put them in some of the weirdest places -- my dad's slippers for example. Needless to say, it was a bit on the funny side but also very icky.

Awesome. Tigh really fouled up the whole chain of command thing didn't he. The Adama!angst is about to ensue when he makes his triumphant return to the CIC in "The Farm" -- you'll love it. I agree, I wish the writers had done something similar with Jim after he'd been shot. *grumbles*

I'm quite excited about the CSI premiere to be honest, even though I have said that I wasn't. Watching the last couple of repeats have put me in a positive mood.

When Ellen first appeared, I genuinely thought she was a cylon. She was sooo obnoxious. I love that wince as he takes a seat in one of Saul's chairs--oh, oh and his request that she leave the cabin.

It's horrible when you realize there's no mom or dad or hubby or teenage son who thinks it's cool and you're the lucky stuckee.

Oh god, yes.

Eh, don't worry about it. Whenever you've got the time.

There must be something in the air because I've never had rats in the back yard until about two weeks ago, when one showed up. And then another about a week after it. I'm a tad concerned that maybe they're attracted to something here. And they're big mofo's that's for sure.

That arc with Adama was soooooo much better than the CSI one. I mean night and day. I'm still harboring resentment about Brass in S7, and not just lack of continuation, just Brass wasn't really in so many eps. The clown one springs to mind.

But yeah, roll on S8. You have any vibes about it? I'm trying to be optimistic, but I'm not feeling it right now. The strange thing is that I'm dying for it to start even though I'm afraid it's going to suck.

I only have one rat story. Our first dog, Rusty, was outside at night. It was raining out and we could hear him yipping. We turned the light on for the backyard and there he was jumping up and down and pouncing at something. We called him in and his face was all full of blood. He had a few scratches on his face, so we went out to see what he was after. It was a rat, that he killed. A few weeks later, he killed another one only this time, he didn't get one scratch on him. It's been 30 years and I've never seen another rat.

However, now I need to borrow one of your cats. George was throwing wood into the basement the other day and he has just informed me that a mouse ran through the open window and is now in the basement. I'm not afraid of a mouse, but I just hate the thought of it down there. I hope it wasn't pregnant. I could end up with quite a little family down there.

I'm gone next week, but the husband has instructions to record CSI. I'm glad it's back on.

Reality has come back to the Lions. However, I had a great time last weekend going to the Lion game and the Michigan/ND game. I can start to claim Michigan again, now that they upset Penn State.

The Cowboys looked good tonight.
