My company gives us three floating holidays so today I'm celebrating the day that Columbus discovered the white sale. Yes, it's one of the better holidays because it's the one that requires us to shop. And that I've been doing. All weekend long. On Friday I went into Best Buy with every intention of buying one of those Bose speaker thingies for my iPod. I never made it over by the Bose speaker thingies. Instead, I wandered over by the flat panel TV's and then into Magnolia. Let's just say the Bose speaker thingy would have been a hell of a lot cheaper but not nearly as pretty to look at.

So, does anyone out there need a 20" Panasonic with remote? It's about 4 years old and dusty. I'll make you a really good deal on it. Really good. ***UPDATE*** I gave away the TV today. A very nice woman in need of a bed (she was relocated to this area because of Katrina and decided to stay) came to pick up a daybed I was giving away. She got the TV as her lovely parting gift. Anyone who drives out to Loudoun County from PG County in rush hour deserves a free TV.

And speaking of TV's, right now the two younger kitties are amusing themselves (and me) by watching this cat video called "Catnip". All it has on it are birds and squirrels frolicking in the wild, making bird and squirrel noises, and the cats go crazy. First they sit, mesmerized, then they try to paw at the screen, or they "run" after the birds who fly away. It's a hoot to watch.

Several years ago we bought a 42" flat panel plasma. It was one of the best purchases we ever made. We love it. Have a Happy Holiday and enjoy.

Mine isn't quite that big and it's not a plasma--I have to unload the big TV in the living room before I can do that. Mine is the next size down and an LCD, so it was a lot cheaper, but the picture is amazing and watching football yesterday was awesome (even if my team has the world's biggest LOSER at QB). Oh, and I won't even mention how incredible it is to watch Brass in HD. You can even see the fuzz on the tops of his ears. Yeah, I know. I'm probably one of about three people who notice that stuff.

Oooh, call me a pirate because I have a box full of those CD-R things. Actually, I have two boxes. I used to record all the CSI eppies until I finally got a DVR. Now I need to see if I can record off the DVR.

I have love for audiobooks from the library, that is where my CD-Rs come into play. Oh the beauty of it. If you find you don't need yours anymore though, I can most definitely give them a good home. :)

Ok, I'm not a pirate. I'm a twit. I was thinking of the recordable DVD's which are DVD-RWs. However, I seem to recall once buying a box of CD-Rs so if I can find them, I'll send them to you because I never, ever use them.

I'm so glad I wandered into LJ today. You've reminded me that I need to hit Best Buy to get some DVD-RW's too. I have a couple of *erm* things *erm* recorded that I owe to someone but nothing to burn them to.

And the plasma? We got a 42" just over a year ago. Brass on the wall in HD? Yes, Please! It's totally droolworthy. But from what I've heard LCD is actually a better pic.

My dad has a 50" Pioneer Elite plasma and it, as well as the picture, is beautiful. I mean, really, really gorgeous. But to be honest, overall I don't notice a huge difference between the plasma and the LCD. To me it's really all about the HD. That's what gives me that amazingly clear picture and lets me see every little nick and scar on Brass's face (the one on his chin is my fave). I can't wait until all stations have to broadcast in HD.

I've been told that what makes a plasma so awesome (and I do agree with this) is that you can view the screen from the side without losing the picture--meaning you can see it just as well from the side as you can from straight on. You can't do that with LCD or DLP, which is supposedly an even better picture than plasma.

Oh, and a co-worker just bought the 60" Pioneer Elite. He said that since they got it, they have to look away at the gross scenes on CSI because they are just too vivid.

The LCD bit about not being able to see it from the side made me smile. I love the fact that laptop screens are LCD coz when I'm on a plane typing away on the old fanfic instead of work, then the nosy sod in the chair nextdoor can't see what I'm doing to Brass.
