I am in Northern VA--Loudoun County near Dulles Airport. I moved out here from Oklahoma back in '87.

Isabelle was my first actual hurricane. The wind was blowing so hard that I was sure a tree was going to crash through the roof. I slept on the sofa with two cats clinging to my side and a portable radio giving constant weather reports. It was scary!
