And it is awesome.

I've mentioned this before but I hate, hate, hate daylight savings time so I'm very happy when we go off it and I get my hour back. Sure it gets dark earlier. So what? That's what it's supposed to do. And pretty soon the snow on the ground will be providing extra light. Personally, I'd like to see what the actual cost savings are to this. Lights on in the morning or lights on in the evening (aren't they already on in the evening), does it really make a difference?

There was a pretty good earthquake in Oklahoma last night. Needless to say, most of my relatives were pretty freaked out about it however a couple of my friends thought it was pretty cool. When we had our 5.8 earthquake back in early August, I thought it was pretty cool too. I know that I would not feel that way if we had a lot of strong earthquakes but for my first one, it was definitely cool.

I made blueberry muffins with King Arthur whole wheat flour and xylitol. I probably should have added a little more oil than the recipe called for but they are very good and very healthy for me. That said, Red Velvet Cupcakes currently has a pumpkin cupcake with pumpkin cream cheese frosting that I really want to try.

My 68 year old mother is now texting. The first couple of texts I got from her were hilarious because she would sign them "mom". She's now figured out that she doesn't need to tell me who she is.

I will now leave you with a pic of Paul Guilfoyle in a tux. He was emcee at the Berklee Encore Gala in Boston in mid October. He does like to talk with his hands, which I'm told is linked to better speaking.

The List

Yeah, yeah, I know I need to write up all the details to last weekend but I came back and work has been a bitch (no surprise), Caps game last night, Caps game tomorrow night, and I have to drive up to Philly at a time that I don't believe is allowed on a weekend. Plus, it's daylight savings this weekend and losing that hour always puts me in a crappy mood. I will say though that I was so looking forward to tonight's CSI episode because I get to see Paul and it brought back all the awesomeness that was Sunday night.

Train tickets have been purchased and we have two rooms at a boutique (and hopefully bedbug free) hotel in Chelsea. We decided to forgo a couple of plays in favor of MoMA, mani's and pedi's, shopping, and of course eating. So we settled on Driving Miss Daisy because hello, it's James Earl Jones and Vanessa Redgrave and thanks to Amex, we got 2nd row orchestra seats for a steal! We also have a reservation for the 10:30 dinner seating at Sardi's after the play. I've always wanted to eat there.

Oh, and totally unrelated but PG scored at least one goal Saturday night in the Hockey Challenge Celebrity All Star game. Pretty good for a guy pushing 62.

So who's going to NYC next weekend to see Paul Guilfoyle read a short story? This girl!

The details are here )

Wow, I haven't done an LJ update since May 23rd? Say what?! This is definitely going to be a lot of catching up. It's funny because the other day I was thinking how many on my f'list seem to have disappeared (they aren't really gone; they just don't post any more) and here I'm guilty of the same thing. That made me wonder what changed? Were we all a lot less busy in previous years? Did we have more to say? Has the popularity of blogging declined? Has Twitter changed the way we communicate? No one has to tell me that priorities change but I do miss the days when LJ was popular and posting was prolific.

Since I haven't done an update in a while, this is going to be long but I'm going to do some fic pimping above the cut so even people who don't read behind the cut will see it. There aren't a lot of Brass fics out there and some of them quite frankly are dreadful. There are a couple though that I have to put in a good word for because they are excellent:

By Design by Sorsha711. I've pimped this one before and I'm at it again. It's an all hands on board casefile (serial killer) that is incredibly detailed and it's Brass and a very well-written OFC who stays nicely in the background and lets Jim be the heroic man. If you're looking for something to read over what's left of the long, hot summer, give it a shot. And if you're so inclined, leave her a review. It's pretty sad when fics not written nearly as well garner a lot more reviews. Oh, and while this hasn't been updated in a couple of months, I do know that she has every intention of updating. She had a little computer set back but once that's resolved, she'll be back at it.

Next up for fic rec's is an awesome Brass ficlet by [livejournal.com profile] scullyseviltwin. A while back she was looking for prompts, I tossed out Brass and hockey and she came up with this gem The Blue Line. It's short but packed full of amazing Brass goodness. Check it out.

Now on to all the other stuff.

Of course there's also the all encompassing Jim Brass Forum. If you're a fan of the man, check them out.

Before I get to my actual post I feel the need to rant about Firefox for a moment. I don't know what the heck is going on but ever since I upgraded to their latest version, the damn thing has been crashing on start up. It doesn't like loading sites that have never had an issue before and now I can't load the Caps website on start-up or the Brass Forum. Never had a problem with the previous version. So, except for IE (hate it), what browser do you use and do you like it?

Turn, Turn, Turn )

I have to thank Taylor Swift for a song I just downloaded. The song on her video clip, the one where PG is saluting and making faces, is called "Use Somebody" by Kings of Leon. I heard it and had to have it. Thanks Taylor!

And [livejournal.com profile] givengo, I know when you read the title, you said it completely in character.
bunchofgrapes: (Alex O - Caps)
Last night the Capitals played the Bruins. It was the second time the two teams have met this season. It was the second time the Caps beat the Bruins. This was a great game. The Bruins are #1 in the Eastern Conference, the Caps are #2 and now 9 points behind them. When the Caps play hard, like they did last night, I don't see any other team in the Eastern Conference that can beat them.

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] la_dame_du_lac, I have discovered this [livejournal.com profile] ugly_crap. Honestly, it makes me nearly wet myself, I laugh so hard.

Pudgy, the neighborhood stray (it's a happy story) )

I'm working from home the next three days. Monday is usual and I'm trying to make Wednesday another usual work from home day but this week it's mostly due to the Inauguration festivities. I live out in the VA burbs, about 13 miles outside DC, and we're seeing increased traffic, mostly from people flying into Dulles and then not knowing where the hell they're going. We aren't nice drivers on a good day. Having a bunch of tourists on the roads doesn't help. It's best if we all just stay home and let the out-of-towners have at it.

I'd like to take the holiday tomorrow but as usual, there's too much going on at work so I don't think I can. Did I mention we are re-organizing AGAIN?! Yeah, they make that announcement while the other one isn't even done yet. But the much despised CFO of my sector has already been replaced by the liked CFO of the sector we're merging with so that's the upside. Anyway, I hate that people don't really recognize the MLK holiday so I like to make a point of taking it. Instead, I'll take it Tuesday. I think MLK would approve.

So I saw an article from some Philly paper where they asked a few celebrities about who they liked in the Super Bowl.

Paul Guilfoyle (Capt. Brass on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation): "The Philadelphia Eagles. I like them to go all the way. They're a little bit like our show. Kind of a wise guy in charge, Donovan McNabb, and a bunch of hard workers."

Personally, I'm hoping it's the Cardinals. I really don't like the Eagles and McNabb.

This is another one of those shotgun posts. Work has been fairly stressful lately so I haven't had the energy to be very sociable.

Tiger Woods is dead to me for this comment. He really wasn't all that alive to me but he blew whatever chance he had. Ass.

And FWIW, I have never watched golf. I might though if Tiger plays full contact golf and takes a golf ball to the face, then plays 54 holes and then another 54 holes after that with a hastily stitched cut and a broken nose. You know, sort of like how the Pens' Ryan Malone took a puck to the face, went in for stitches and came back out to play all of the game, including the 3 OT's. Btw, congrats to the Red Wings! It was a great cup final.

Wow, seems like it's been ages since I posted.

First, a little birthday biz to attend to. Um, just pretend I'm in the central time zone, where it's still May 23rd.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, HAPPY BIRTHDAY MINGSMOMMY, LOTS OF CAKE FOR YOU!

Hope your day was fabulous!

This is the part where I ramble on about PS3 and my various obsessions, most of them being TV shows )

And just because I'm in love with his right thigh, not to mention his hand on the back of his head.

Let's not even talk about the jeans, the boots and the Harley jacket )

So I have strep (no doubt thanks to the hacking woman on the flight to Vegas) and have been home since Monday. Today the antibiotics finally kicked in and my massively sore throat has subsided--yay! I got back from Vegas on Wednesday afternoon and had to do some work that evening. Thursday and Friday were also hectic so I never got to the store before I became a disease-riddled couch slug. Between hacking up a lung, thinking I must have swallowed a knife, and wondering how one nose could produce so much snot, I got this bright idea to order groceries from Peapod. This is awesome! The only downside is that I wouldn't get my stuff until the next day but I had them deliver between 8am and 10am and they were here around 8:30. There's a delivery charge plus giving the guy a tip but to be able to buy groceries without having to go to the store and have some guy actually bring them to your door? Priceless!

Speaking of Vegas, I've been trying to type up a massive trip post but haven't finished it yet. I might get to it before the end of the year.

On the plus side, I did find this pic of PG at the WGA strike yesterday. Love the sunglasses!

Oh, and apparently, Paul was giving out chocolate chip cookies yesterday.

"Vincent"

Anyone ever heard of or seen a British show called "Vincent"? It's about an ex-cop turned private eye and from the write up on IMDB, the main character, Vincent Gallagher, sounds a lot like Jim Brass ("macho, flawed, and extremely vulnerable man, who seems to live in the shadows of his past"). It's funny because just yesterday I got this catalog in the mail and saw the blurb for the DVD's. I was thinking that the guy who plays Vincent, Ray Winstone, has sort of a Paul Guilfoyle look about him, which is why it caught my attention. Well, that and the catalog write up compared the show to Monk and CSI.

I just added the show to my Netflix queue but if anyone has seen the show, I'd be curious to know what you think of it.

I haven't posted random stuff in a while so here's a bunch of random stuff.

Migraines, electronics, cats and CSI, oh my! )

Today is Paul Guilfoyle's 58th birthday! He shares his birthday with my cat, Harry. I'm sure Paul would be very excited to know that. I know Harry is.

Last year around this time, Paul G started making the rounds on morning radio shows. It was great because he talked about hockey and Brass getting shot and how, if he didn't survive, he might pop up on ER. Well, he seems to be making the rounds again. I posted this over on the Jim Brass Fansite Forum but thought I'd repost it here for anyone who doesn't visit the Brass Forum (WHAT!? Why aren't you?).

Paul G visits The Don and Mike Show

The great thing is the interview actually lasts for a good 16 minutes and for once Paul talks about himself and of course, CSI. I lurve his voice, btw. It's so different from Brass. And he giggles.

I hate the way ties squish his neck.
